Vail has been at the forefront of modern day snow grooming right from the start. Even though flattening snow into a compacted surface to allow easier and faster travel has been practiced in Europe for hundreds of years – mainly by having horses haul heavy farming rollers – it wasn’t until the 1950’s, right here in Colorado, that snow grooming began as we know it today.

John Donovan is originally from Chicago, Illinois and used to instruct and later supervise Golden Peak Childrens Ski School, ages 7-teen. Now he leads ski tours of Vail Mountain five days a week.

The Spirit of Vail (VIDEO)

When combined into one video, they show that while the equipment, the town, and the mountain have changed, the reasons that people love to visit Vail have remained the same.
