My Personal Experience:

On the days leading up to my spa treatment, I was a little concerned about feeling claustrophobic, but I found that the tank provided much more room than I had imagined. I felt comfortable, relaxed and safe during the entire experience. The magnesium-saturated water was at the perfect temperature and the buoyancy allowed me to float without any effort. Thanks to the advice of The Lodge at Vail therapists, I relaxed, focused on my breathing, and I was in a meditative state within seconds.

I am not a scientist, but I do know that after my 60 minutes in the tank, I felt completely rejuvenated and calm. I had that overall, relaxed body sensation that one feels after a soothing massage.

A proven after effect of floating is the reduction of cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone that when in excess, creates stress and a constant “fight or flight reaction.” It is normal in situations of peril or danger, but sustained increased cortisol levels can lead to headaches, sleep disruption, high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression. Float tank therapies have also been used as an alternative treatment for acute injuries as they promote healthy activity of the circulatory and lymphatic systems.
