January is Safety Month at Vail
January is the National Ski Areas Association’s (NSAA) Safety Awareness Month and to celebrate we’re offering up 4 weekends of safety themed events!
Any day in the month of January you can approach a Mountain Safety employee and recite the seven steps of Your Responsibility Code for a chance to win a GoPro HERO3+ when the winner is drawn at the end of the month.
Friday, Jan. 3 – Sunday, Jan. 5: Terrain Park Safety
Brush up on your terrain park etiquette and freestyle terrain safety as portions of the Golden Peak terrain park open to the public this weekend! Be sure to meet up with any of the Terrain Park Crew to learn more about safety in these areas. A limited number of skiers and snowboarders who are “caught” properly using the park, respecting others and other good behavior will be rewarded handsomely!
Friday, Jan. 10 – Sunday, Jan. 12: Kids Safety Scavenger Hunts
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, kids are invited to meet members of the Mountain Safety team at the Chaos Canyon Kids Adventure Zone near Mid-Vail for a scavenger hunt. Little rippers must answer a series of safety-related questions before receiving a small prize at the conclusion of the scavenger hunt.
Friday, Jan. 17 – Sunday, Jan. 19: Put a Lid on It!
Vail Sports at the base of Gondola One is putting on a free helmet demo from 10am to 2pm Friday and Saturday. Try out different helmets to see what works best for you!
Mountain Safety staff will also be on the lookout for those who are not wearing helmets and providing opportunities to think about “putting a lid on it,” through discounts and helmet giveaways.
Friday, Jan. 24-Sunday, Jan. 26: Slow Zone Spotlight
Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to visit with Mountain Safety staff around the mountain and tell them what the slow zones are across Vail Mountain as well as the expected behavior in these zones. Correct respondents may receive a reward! Also, visit with Mountain Safety staff at Henry’s Hut between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to discuss slow zones and other aspects of mountain safety, and don’t forgot to recite the seven steps of Your Responsibility Code and enter the drawing for a chance to win a GoPro HERO3+!
