New snow at Vail [video]

Feb. 19, 2015

We received 7″ of snow Sunday into Tuesday morning this week and forecasts are calling for 8-15″ between Friday and Sunday – great news for you weekend warriors!

Here’s Joel Gratz of OpenSnow‘s take:

Thursday will be dry and mostly sunny with high temperatures in the 30s. Then the fun begins with snow starting on Friday and continuing through Sunday. I do want to make a few updates to the forecast. First, I have medium to high confidence that the Vail Valley should see 8-15 inches of snow from this system, though I have low confidence about the timing of the heaviest snowfall. My best estimate is that an initial round of snow will start on Friday midday and continue through Friday evening. Then we could see a lull Friday night into Saturday morning, with potentially another round of moderate or heavier snow Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Both Saturday and Sunday will be fun days to be on the hill, and since I cannot confidently tell you which day will be the better powder day, so don’t be too picky and just ski both days!

After this storm, next Monday through Thursday will be on the drier side with high temperatures in the 20s, then another storm is likely between about Friday, February 27th and Sunday, March 1st.
