Over a foot of snow at Vail
Patrol dog Rocky shoulder-deep in snow this morning. P: Andrew Taylor
Time to get excited – winter is back in a big way at Vail! We received 10″ on the official Vail snow stake at 5am this morning and have seen at least a few more inches fall throughout the day today. The natural snow coverage is building up and chilly temps have allowed snowmakers to fire up guns on Born Free; all good signs for opening day, Nov. 20.
We shadowed Ski Patrol this morning as they made their daily rounds on the mountain. Photos by Andrew Taylor.
Below are photos of Vail’s official snow stake, which is located about 3/4 of the way up the mountain on the front side. Each morning that we receive snow, Patrol goes up to clear the stake.
The snow stake before being cleared at 10am had accumulated another 2″ from the 10″ reading at 5am. Snow continued to fall throughout the day, bringing the 36 hour total to over a foot of snow.
The top of the mountain is looking pretty impressive right now and, of course, patrol dog Rocky took the opportunity to run headlong into the shoulder-deep powder.
All this snow have you itching to ski and ride? Make sure to get your 4-day, 7-day or season long Epic Pass, they’re only available through Nov. 22. Need lodging? We’ve got incredible discounts going on right now for dates throughout the season, check out Vail lodging deals.
Thanks for all the snow dances and keep them coming – we’ll see you this winter in Vail.
