Weekly Outlook
Siberia Bowl this morning
7″ in the past 24hrs and 17″ in the past week have the mountain in prime shape. Thursday morning should have plentiful first tracks for the early birds, as the storm dropped its final flakes late afternoon.
Thursday morning work yourself towards Siberia Bowl, if only for a lap, as Orient Express opened late Wednesday morning due to high winds, and should have some of the best turns. Blue Sky as usual, should have enough powder stashed around to last all morning, with the exception of the trees at the bottom of Skree Field, which tend to stay untracked days after a storm. Forecast for this weekend calls for a return to sunny and mild days, perfect for zipping down Vail’s manicured groomed runways. In case you were not aware Vail has a grooming schedule so you can plan ahead. Thursday morning for example, The Slot, in Sun Up Bowl is always a crowd pleaser.
Legit powder today
With the 2015 World Ski Championships taking place down the road in Beaver Creek, Vail’s slopes have been pretty roomy. But you can watch all ski races with out leaving Vail; Solaris Plaza, aka “2015 Championship Plaza” is playing all events in real time in a Jumbotron screen (full calendar of events here). If you don’t feel like coming down from the mountain, Look Ma, in Mid Vail, will also be running the championships on all their screens. After the slopes close, Vail is the place to be, as daily medal ceremonies take place in Vail, not too mention there’s a full lineup of bands playing free concerts through the championships. Thursday’s concert should be a legendary one, as the one and only Mix Master Mike will start scratching vinyl at 7:00pm, once the ladies draw bibs for the DH, also at Solaris Plaza.
There were tons of first tracks still available in Siberia Bowl
If you come to Vail for the day, and you didn’t plan to stick around to enjoy the 2015 Championships to the max, remember that there are still great last minute lodging deals. If you haven’t checked these deals out, do yourself a favor and at least browse through them, as they’re more than tempting.
The championships have barely started and Lindsey Vonn has already opened up the locals medal count, with a podium performance in the Super-G. Michael Franti followed up with an over the top concert that will be talked in town for years to come, and it’s only day 4!
China Bowl circa 9am
